Historical Arial Photos of Augusta Co. Farms
This site is designed for sales of old arial photos of farm sites throughout Augusta County. Each photo bears a company watermark as most photos for sale do. The watermark not withstanding, it is the only site I have ever found that has hundreds of farms and farmhouses and structures that were taken from an airplane during the 1960s. It is an exceptional chance to get a glimpse of your ancestor's farm if you know what it looked like. It does require manually searching the photos to find the one you need. For anyone searching, there are location maps associated with each group of photos so you can at least narrow it down to the region of the county and many time the actual road that your ancestors property is located near. Use the contacts page on the website to reach out if you need assistance and all efforts will be put forward to locate the photo you are looking for if it is in the datatbase.
Historical Soil Survey Maps of Virginia - By County
These maps for most but not all Virginia counties, printed from 1901 to 1940, are housed in the archives at the University of Alabama. They have locations such as churches, schools and post offices plotted on them that I have been unable to find on any other map. If you are searching for location names, this might be a resource worth checking.
Pennsylvania Counties Map
Possibly one of the best map tools on the web for getting a better understanding of the counties of Pennsylvania and the townships and boroughs within each county. The township and Boroughs map is an up-to-date road map with topography map overlay. A good addition to other electronic maps when planning a genealogy trip to research immigrant ancestors.
Sanborn Maps-Library of Congress
The is a collection of maps compiled from the late 19th century into the early 20th century by the Sanborn Fire Insurance Company. They have information not found on any other maps. Archived by the Library of Congress, these maps can prove invaluable when researching business locations and the evolution of businesses in towns and cities.
